Josie's fight came to an end today. As some might know, she went down over the weekend (fever of 106.+) and was taken to the vet (Pleasant Valley) on Monday. She was given aggressive therapy (fluids, antibiotics, injections, force fed) along with blood work, to try and find out what was wrong. Unfortunately, the tests came back today showing serious liver issues (hepatitis). Josie was refusing to eat and wasn't doing well. Because she wasn't responding to treatment, it was evident that she wasn't going to get any better and the vets decided to put her to sleep before her suffering got any worse. Linda, who brought us Josie over six (6) months ago, was with her today when she was laid to rest. Our hearts are broken. Josie was a big part of the sanctuary and will be sorely missed.

Hunter crossed the Bridge the last week in August of 2010. "Hunter was definitely special. I first saw him in the acclimation cage, and he was so obviously somebody's fat and pampered house kitty that I wondered how he'd ended up at the sanctuary. He was very intelligent, and even through the acclimation wire he would speak up, like he was saying, "Look at me! I'm all by myself and desperately need some stimulation!" He attacked the fishing pole with gusto, killing the feathers and trying to drag them off into the cage. Once he was out of acclimation, he would stake out a claim to my lap when I'd come to visit him. We became each other's favorite, and even after he was so sick he'd make sure he got some petting time. I was excited to hear he got adopted, so I was sad to hear he'd passed away."

Delilah came to us on March 5, 2009 because her owner had a lung disease and was deathly allergic and her health depended on her being away from animals and several other conditions in the environment. Delilah wasn't very happy about being given up and had much to say about it. She would lash out at people and was severely overweight. Throughout the time she was here, she learned to adapt to the other cats here and make friends. Delilah enjoyed being involved in conversation, being brushed and of course, her treats. As time went on she continued to lose weight which was a result of her chronic Stomatitis. Unfortunately, even with antibiotics and steroids, it wasn't enough to combat her condition and the infection spread through her blood stream and she unfortunately lost the fight on February 19, 2010.Our supporter Kerry makes custom garden memory stones.
She has generously offered to donate $5.00 from the sale of each stone to our animals at Agee. Please mention Agee when ordering.
