MEA CULPA

We apologize to everyone in advance.

We simply don't have the time to properly update, onto the web, every precious little one who goes out through Agee. Our adoptions are one of our biggest priorities, but posting them on the web will always take a back seat to the realities of time and effort to save and care for them. That is our primary job. That takes an enormous amount of time, money and effort!

You can help support our efforts, if you think they are worth your time and support!

Please donate, if your heart tells you to. Please tell your friends and neighbors to adopt from us or any other worthwhile organization doing similar work. The "little ones" will appreciate it. It's their only hope for a life!

Cali (Formerly Lexi) - Adopted!

This little Chihuahua mix was found wandering between lanes of traffic in Modesto. Kathy stopped and took the dog in her car, only to discover it had been discarded. She took it to the shelter, hoping to find it a home, and on the last day before being put to sleep, Agee rescued her. Cali has a new name and has been adopted; she is very happy in her new home. She has two other doggie siblings, as you can see in the picture.

Gizmo, Lulu and Maxi

Our home has been full of activity since we adopted our three kitties. Lulu loves to retrieve Q-tips from the tub, Maxi prefers her natural brown mice, and Momo just loves to sit on Jim's lap. They have brought so much fun and joy into our lives. Thank you for all you do to make these adoptions possible. We truly love the new additions to our family.

Note from Stretch and Angel's new mom: Hi Cindy; Okay, we adore them SO much we decided to re-name them. Sebina (bean-bean girl is my nickname for her) is right in front of me as I'm typing this; she IS very inquisitive and a little talker too! Honestly, we are having so much fun just loving them. On Monday, Brewer sat on my lap for 20 minutes while I was petting him AND he was purring softly; he loves to have his chin and neck rubbed! My husband, Robin, was born and raised in the great state of Maine, living there until he graduated from the Univ of Maine when he was 22; Brewer is one of the places he lived and we thought it was appropriate for our gorgeous Maine Coon boy. Robin plays these games with them: a mouse-on-a-stick chase/grab and the under-the-blanket mystery. They do want to venture outside but they'll have to wait until this weekend when we can supervise everything. I'll let you know how it goes.

Update 04/07/09: Everything continues to go well. They're in and out all the time but they do seem to prefer to be inside but Brewer ventures out a bit more than Bean. I'm including a picture of both of them in our living room, with Brewer laying in a bag; they LOVE to play with it! Another, featuring Brewer in his favorite napping spot among pillows, a sunny window seat in our dining area. And Bina on her back being her cutie-patootie self!

The two of them are so cute together. Bean Bean will lick Brewer's face, neck and ears. She'll put her paw on his neck so that she can get to his ears!! They'll even give each other little kisses. I've never seen anything like it and I think I'll have to start referring to them as boyfriend and girlfriend rather than brother and sis! They play fight alot too with Sebina antagonizing him, laying on her back and pawing at him-just ADORABLE!

Jasper aka Brutus

This little (?) guy came to us in June 2007 which makes him about 6 months old. His name is Jasper but mostly I call him Brutus. As you can see if he was ever a runt he's grown out of it. He's almost too big for a lap already but makes room for his friend "Baby". Baby is our 7 year old, also a rescued cat. When they play together he's too young to know how big he is but Baby lets him go for awhile then shows him who lived here first. They lay together and clean each other until he gets restless and takes off to run. He seems very happy here. HAPPY HOLIDAYS! Thank you. Sue & Kim

Bonnie - Adopted!

Bonnie

Update on Bonnie: A letter from Bonnie's mom Carol... "We love Bonnie!! She has made us really laugh out loud every day!! Our 5 yr old female cat, Syd, is finally accepting her and even makes somewhat feeble attempts to reciprocate with "play" when Bonnie comes running up to her to play. Last night they were sleeping right next to each other, beside me, on the couch, so things are looking up!! I'm attaching a few cute pictures of her.

I need to get her scheduled to get her 2nd shots. She is growing great with no diarrhea problems. She and Syd and our dog Fender all sleep in the house and we just close them off from our bedroom. Bonnie had to sleep in a bedroom with door closed (food, water, box) until just this week when we made the change. She hasn't had any accidents outside of her litter box--good news!! She is smart and very cute, and very fun. We love her a lot and so glad we have her!! Thank you for doing such a great job of socializing her before we got her."

Jasper, Pumpkin and Pookie's Grand Adventure: A Story of Love and Friendship

(This is a letter from Jerrye who helped reunited three cats with their owner Mercy. We wanted to share this story, especially given the Thanksgiving holiday...a time to count blessings. Thank you Jerrye!)

I met Mercy through Hospice of San Joaquin. I am a nurse and she lost her significant other to cancer. When Michael died, Mercy did not know how she would care for her 8 indoor kitties alone. She had quit her job to become Michael's full time care giver. Mercy's brothers in Tennesee offered to help her move closer to them, but we could not figure out how her dear kitties would get there too. One thing was for sure, these cats are Mercy's children. She had suffered so much loss already.

I promised her as a cat lover myself that I would help and we would find a way. I opened the Stockton Record that day June 8, 2007 and I saw the article about the Pollardville rescue. I had called all of the local rescue groups to find that they were all full. I decided it could not hurt to call and share my story with the Agee Memorial Rescue group. That is where Cindy comes in. She listened with compassion and offered to help if we could get a couple of the cats to El Dorado Hills. Mercy thought with her heart and picked Jasper and Pumpkin. She thought that if she could not get them back that they would be the two most apt to be adopted.

Mercy and I developed a plan with the generous help of her brothers for Mercy to drive her car with 5 kitties in carriers all the way to Seymour, Tennesee. We brought one more sweetie to Cindy, little Pookie, a very shy girl. It was obvious that these three kitties were so attached to Mercy that they would have a difficult time adopting out. I decided then that if we could wait until October, I would find a way to get those three back together with their family in Tennesee.

Mercy and the 5 kitties left in August by car with a friend Dave to help with driving. They made it and Mercy started looking for a job to support her family. Soon, she was working at Walmart and getting her 5 settled in a nice mobile home. Meanwhile, Cindy spent special time with Mercy's three little Mamma's kitties to keep their hearts from breaking while they waited.

On October 10th, I picked up the three kitties (Jasper, Pumpkin and Pookie) and put them on a plane bound for Tennessee and that next day they were back in their Mamma's arms with 5 brothers and sisters saying "Hey, where have you been?" I have learned so much from Mercy's strength when faced with this loss and grief. She stayed strong to get her family back and is doing very well. We will always stay in contact. Our friendship is bound by kitties, the best kind there is!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and all of those you love.

Jerrye
