Peep

Peep

Feb 1999 - Dec 26, 2011

Lynyrd Skynyrd plays Free Bird while I write this. This song is a good match to Peep, who flew free today after almost 13 years. She came into my life via an ad in a small local paper I just happened to see. She was a stray kitten turned in at the local veterinarian's office. They were looking to find her a home. I went. I saw. I touched. She was mine.

But I learned, too late, kittens can't be left alone. They must be acclimated to humans. You couldn't pick up or pet Peep, but when she wanted you, she'd come on the couch or the bed for petting. She did bond with Domino, in fact, often she was Domino's shadow. Domino tolerated this. Peep was very close to Domino. Peep got along with all the other cats and Robert the Dog.

Peep had an inflammation in her mouth. About this time last year all her rear teeth were removed, then a a few months later, the remaining teeth extracted. Things seemed to be better, then more issues. A steroid helped, she put on weight, she was again back around the house in all the places she used to be. Four weeks later, the steroid didn't help.

She was a brave girl, she accepted all the things done to make her better with no complaints. Even being kept in the bathroom for a week post dental extraction and daily medication. For the last week, she came into the bedroom and laid against me and purred.

I'm comfortable knowing for almost 13 years, she was a happy cat. Loved and cherished.

Now every Christmas time, when I think of angels, I'll think of Peep, who loved in her own way, did what she wanted and passed through this world sharing that love.

Goodbye and godspeed little girl. Wait for me on the Rainbow Bridge with all the others. While you're not here tonight, you'll never leave my heart.

KB

In loving memory of KB

KB was a totally awesome cat and was loved by everyone and was purring like a Harley Davidson right up to the end. He was 18 years old. Thank you to Nick who donated $100 in loving memory of KB.

Diana donated $50.00 to our ELF fund in memory of Tugboat, a cat she had long ago that passed away from squamous cell cancer.

Taradactyl

Taradactyl

December 1995 - September 2011

Taradactyl, or 'dactyl for short, was the little cinnamon roll Abyssinian.
Food was her life.  As a kitten, she flew across the floor up on the couch
and onto a plate of pork chops and rice.  She didn't run but those little
legs moved swiftly when the BBQ chicken was served.  Even with hardly
any teeth, with food diced into small bits, she hoovered it.

Taradactyl was a personable kitteh, were I was, she was, often on my desk
while I worked.  When it was time for bed, she was the first one curled up.
In the morning, her face was frequently the first one I saw.  Standing on my
chest looking into my eyes. The silent message?  It's time for breakfast.

Recently when I was ill in bed, her place was on the pillow, next to my
head.  In the winter, when it was cool and the wood stove was slowing down,
under the covers was a satisfactory location.

Taradactyl got along with everyone. People included.

She would have turned 16 this December.

Even at the end, sick as she was, when the veterinarian tried to open her
mouth to look, she surprised her and gave her back a bloody thumb from the
razor sharp claws.  Feisty to the end. Life on her terms.

When  you look into the heavens tonight, you'll know my little angel is
there.

I know we will see each other again. Taradactyl, you'll always be
remembered and you will always live in our hearts for as long as we live.
Goodbye and godspeed my little one.

Cole

COLE was a very sweet boy; he hugged and had a very loud purr.

Chillie

Rest in Peace Chillie

9/1/01 - 2/19/11

My niece found Chillie under a car trying to stay dry from the rain, when she was a tiny baby in 2001. She had her for 8 years but then life dealt her some hard blows and she couldn't keep her. I was just supposed to foster this sweet baby for my niece but within 5 minutes I knew she was mine. There was no way I could ever give her up. Less than two weeks later I had a lump removed from her hip and found out that she had a very aggressive form of cancer called Fibrosarcoma. Within another month she had another growth but we, my niece and I, opted not to put her through another surgery but to let her live her life out as happy and as comfortable as I could keep her. Her tumor ruptured, she wouldn't take medication and I couldn't allow her to suffer so on 2/19/11 we were with her as she was humanely euthanized. It was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I only had 10 months with Chillie but she will live forever in my heart. I will see you at the Rainbow Bridge my sweet angel and we will cross over together. I love you and miss you sweet baby.

Thumper

Cindy Perry donated $500 in loving memory of Thumper -- "Thumper was the “son” of my good friends, Patty Hickey and Mark Gove. My donation is in his memory on their behalf. This is a picture of me with him – he loved to be held. But he was so big that you really had to have some serious muscle to hold him for long! He was their best friend. A huge kitty, with an even bigger heart."

Beastie

Janet Frey donated $100.00 in loving memory of Beastie.

She has been my constant companion since I rescued her as a 6 week old kitten, until she passed away from renal failure at 18 years old. She has seen me through job changes, moving from Idaho to Utah, marriage, and a new home. She has been by my side as I lost my father, and I dealt with some health issues. I shall miss having her meow her welcome when I come home from work, sitting by the tub as I soak away the trouble of the day, and sitting on the yarn as I crochet kitty blankets for your sanctuary, friends & family. There is a hole in my heart where she lived, and a strange quietness in the home with her absence.

Polly girl was my best friend dog, I told her all the time, but she knew it. She had a personality like no other and she is missed. I will cross the Rainbow Bridge and be with you someday Polly.

Jeffrey L. Richardson donated $100 in memory of Cedar.

Nik Sakai (Oreo's mom) donated $200 in memory of her precious dog, Patches, who passed away on March 15, 2010: My heart is still broken and will remain so until I see her again. She was the best companion I have ever had in my whole life-she was more human than most of the humans I know. She was just one month shy of her 12th birthday until her body just started to shut down.  After numerous meds and 2 trips to the ER, she decided she had it.  Before, I took her to the ER for the 2nd and ultimately last time, we were at home and we were both sitting in front of the humidifier as I was trying to "fan" the extra oxygen to her. She sat there taking in the extra air then put her little paw on my thigh and looked up into my eyes wit her soulful eyes as if to tell me, "It's ok, mommy, I'm tired and you can let me go to heaven now".  That will forever remain etched in my heart and mind.  I miss her something bad, but I know she is young again, happy and romping around heaven with her 2 cat sisters, Sox and Koko. Patches, I will love you always!

Bruce Thompson made a $50.00 donation in loving memory of Noreen Jean Thompson and her compassion for animals.

Dona made a donation of $25.00 on behalf of her friend, Kaya Krumenacker, who passed away on April 6, 2010 from lymphoma. She loved her cat which was a great comfort to her in the last months.

Angeline Mrva donated $50.00 in loving memory of Tony, the Tiger Cat.

Miki

Miki 04/12/09 - 04/30/10

It was a short time after Shadow (10/30/09) gave up her struggle with hyperthyroidism that I met Miki. He wandered directly across the Sanctuary lawn, stood on his hind feet, gently placing his front legs on my thigh. He said take me home. I did and little did I know what a busy, vocal little boy he would be. He fit right in with the eight other felines and was the first one at the food bowl when the can opened. If the food didn't appear fast enough, a black furry paw was there to pat the can to empty it quicker. All things were toys. Of course, why couldn't he climb the curtains and hang from them like fruit? Yes it was easier to just jump 3 feet up rather than climb from the bottom.

He was different than Shadow, but he was my shadow. It was his job, at the end of the day to come into the office, lay down between my arms, rest his head on my forearm and wait. He couldn't wait long without grabbing my forearm and rubbing his head back and forth. This was the sign to log off, the day is over and now it's Miki time.

He was only 54 weeks old. I don't have many pictures of him. The changes were quick but subtle at the end.

When I wonder why, I don't have an answer, just bad luck. I cherished the time with him and miss his antics and bold swagger. He didn't walk normally, he had a swagger, tail arched in a U that said he had a presence. When he wanted something another feline was eating, he just put his paw on their shoulder. When he wanted to play, he ran along side, jumping in the air and patting his playmate on the shoulder with his paw. No harsh words were ever spoken. Of course, he could nuzzle Robert the Dog as well.

At the end, he was in my lap. He rolled on his back and stretched, rolled to his side and grabbed my forearm with both paws. He rubbed his head back and forth a few times.

I look up into the heavens each night wondering why my little boy was taken from me so young. I cherish our short time together. He, like all my other creatures have left this mortal world but will be in my heart forever. They're all locked there and I feel sometimes I can reach out to them. Maybe, if I could have anything, I'd like the knowledge that yes, on this earth it's ashes to ashes, but I'll see them all again and we'll all be together forever.

Godspeed my little boy.

  Wendy

In Loving Memory of Wendy

Birthdate: 1991 - Adopted June: 1992 - Died: June 5, 2009

Wendy was adopted from the SPCA in Clearwater, Florida in June 1992. She joined our family, which included our feline "son" Timmy, who sadly died in January 2006 at the age of 17. Wendy had an adventurous life and probably had more frequent flier miles than most kitties can claim. Her adventures took her through a multitude of moves, which included moving from the Sunshine State to Germany and later returning to Florida. Shortly thereafter, she moved from Florida to Sydney, Australia, residing in Australia for three years. In 2001, Wendy's journey continued with her family moving back to the U.S. and living in Fort Worth, Texas. Her final travel included a move to the Golden State, with her last home being in the beautiful foothills of the Sierra Nevada.

This little bronze tabby with the greenest eyes and a nose in International Red, the color of the Golden Gate Bridge, had more nicknames than most cats we know. There are too many to list, yet she knew every one of them. Wendy was incredibly athletic and agile, just like a powerful ballerina. She loved meals that included tuna and lamb. And she was a little trouble-maker too! Even in her senior years, her understanding was, if you left the bathroom door open by mistake, then you were going to learn a lesson the hard way, by cleaning up thousands of bits and pieces of toilet paper, after she decided she was finished "shredding."

Wendy was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism in 2001. Her ailments grew because of this disease throughout her last eight years to include hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and high blood pressure. She also suffered from arthritis. Around the time of her "dad's" deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan in 2008, three different vets had given her a very grim prognosis, only foreseeing her to live another month or two. But she was a determined fighter with an incredible spirit and we never gave up on her. Looking back we realized that Wendy wanted to live in order to wait for her "dad's" return from overseas deployment. She was the most loyal and most dedicated friend (true to the meaning of the name Wendy) to her "mom" during her "dad's" absence. Two months after his return, Wendy, weighing a little over 4 ½ lbs., decided she was too tired to continue her fight and she drew her last breath at home in our arms on June 5, 2009 at 2:00pm.

Leonardo da Vinci once stated: "The smallest feline is a masterpiece." That was our Lil' Pumpkin. We always commented that Wendy was small, but boy was she mighty!

Wendy, at last, with no more aches,
And no more pain,
We look to the day,
We will all be together again.

Rest in Peace Beautiful Babykins. We miss you heaps!

Mischa

In Loving Memory of Mischa

Birthdate: Est. 2004 - Adopted: June 13, 2009 - Died: April 23, 2010

We are shocked and devastated at the unexpected loss of our little "diva" Mischa. She was diagnosed with a malignant liver mass (tumor) this week. Mischa's short life ended on April 23, 2010. She was laid to rest next to our other beloved kitties Timmy and Wendy.

Mischa joined our family last year after our Wendy (age 18) had passed away. Before joining us, she had a very traumatic life and our desire was for her to finally live a peaceful life with lots of love. She was loved by us more than she will ever know. We felt that Mischa also deserved to finally be pampered and spoiled. And spoilt she was! She became known as our little diva Mischa. Mischa was a beautiful blue Birman with the softest fur we have ever felt on a cat. She was also quite the chatterbox and, more importantly, she had a little heart of gold, Little Meesh-Meesh was a cuddlebug, who could continuously purr and kneed her little front paws to shower us with affection. And Mischa sure knew how to make us laugh too!

It is difficult for us to understand how and why little Mischa got this terminal disease. She was too young to die. We became incredibly attached to this little girl and are now left heartbroken. Although we may never find closure, we can find comfort in knowing that she will never have anymore trauma in her life and she can now rest in peace pain-free.

"Mischa, you have gone ahead,
And nothing is the same,
Leaving pawprints on our hearts
That will always remain."

"Schlaf tuef Mischi-Meiti, euses chliises Schaetzi"
(Sleep tight little Mischa girl, our little sweetheart)

TaylorIn Loving Memory of Taylor, the special girl of our volunteer volunteer Gina: "Taylor was born around October 1, 1992. My husband and I rescued her and her feral brother Tigger, both about 10 days old. Both lived in the wall of a vacant building slated to be demolished on my grandmother's property. Armed with kitten formula and bottles, we set out to hand raise our new charges.

Some special traits of Taylor's were, she liked to lie on her back and let me stroke her chest, belly and paws. She was trusting in that way. Taylor used to do what my husband and I called the "paw paw dance", kneading her paws when she was happy. She did that standing up, thus "the dance", as well as while laying down. Taylor loved to fetch sponge balls. She would play for quite some time with us before she became tired of it. She used to take her sponge balls into the bath tub and bat them around as well.

The last few years of Taylor's life were spent fighting hyperthyroidism and gum disease. Taylor made a valiant effort, but her poor health at the end took our sweet girl. She made her journey to the Bridge on February 18, 2010."

Bob and Peg Campbelll made a $100 donation in Loving Memory of their sweet girl Fanny Brice:

Fanny Brice

"On November 9, 2009, we lost our beloved friend of 13 years, Fanny Brice, a Basset Hound/Dachshund cross after a brief but deadly bout with cancer. She passed on at home in a mercifully swift manner and in peaceful and loving surroundings.

Fanny originally came to us through our daughter, Jennifer, who was her first "Mom". Jenn thought the puppy was a very "Funny Girl" and named her thus. We babysat Fanny while Jenn found a new apartment (after being evicted for having a dog!). Fanny and Champ, our other dog at the time, became fast friends and Champ became a "Dad" to Fanny.

Fanny never had pups of her own, but she did become a "Mom" to our two cats who arrived as homeless abandoned kittens. Fanny taught them "dog ways" and the cats loved to chase and wrestle with Fanny as much as Fanny loved to chase them. To this day, we say that these cats are more like dogs than any cats we have ever had.

Fanny loved the outdoors and was a constant hiking companion over years of hiking in the Sierra, the canyons of southern Utah, and the high desert of Nevada. She loved going on our rock trips where she could not only be in the wilderness, but also hang out with her many dog buddies of our rock friends.

We will always remember our dear friend and look forward to being with her again in eternity.

Thanks to Agee Memorial Wildlife Fund for allowing us to post this memoriam. Cindy and Ed, you are the best.

Bob and Peg Campbell"

Pete made a donation to Agee in memory of his cat named Brat. Here is his memorial to Brat.

In Loving Memory of Shadow, our dear friend Bill's cat. We are very saddened over her passing:

Shadow

Today Shadow's fight against hyperthyroidism and diabetes came to an end. Even at the end, Shadow was a trooper.Shadow dodged a bullet early in life as a youngster. She came from that last room at the Roseville animal shelter. Black cats don't fare well. Shadow was the typical basement cat until the end. You'll have to Google for basement cat. She had features, but those features were on the page that wasn't attached to her documentation package.

Shadow was the mother cat to everyone. Except Cheuy. Taradactyl didn't need a mother cat so they had words. And until the end, Taradactyl made peace with Shadow. I'll miss my little black cat. I miss them all. I truly do wish that the Rainbow Bridge exists and we'll all be together again for eternity. But what's not clear, is who does the litter box there.

Your spirit is free from your body Shadow, you'll be in my heart forever. God speed my little one.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die...

Sue Kelly donated a statue to the Fat Kitty City Cemetery, in memory of the Fab Four.

In Loving Memory of "The Fab Four" (Romeo, Duchess, Tyra and Hercules.) Kelly donated $100 in memory of Hercules, who most recently crossed The Rainbow Bridge. Each of The Fab Four were rescue dogs, starting with Duchess back in 1989 (she was from the Humane Society in Las Vegas), to Tyra in 1997, to Romeo in 1998 and to Hercules in 2000.

Fab Four

Duchess was a surrender. Tyra was the product of her owners being evicted and was stated to be put to sleep at the Las Vegas Shelter. Romeo was left abandoned in the desert. Hercules was left tied to a stick with his sibling and starved (his sibling died and Hercules was rescued just in time.) All will be sorely missed.

MorganIn loving memory of Morgan, Linda Bogan-Wilson's cat. He will be sorely missed.

JasmineKaren made a $200 donation to Agee in memory of Jasmine, her mother's beloved cat. In loving memory of JASMINE. Jasmine lived a life full of love--being loved and giving love. All black save for a small splash of white on her chest, she was soft and cuddly with a lot of body and a lot of purr. Jasmine enjoyed a healthy and hearty life for 14 years. The sequence of events leading to Jasmine's passing began just a few weeks ago. How she handled herself in the last few weeks of her life demonstrates her robust independence and her strong attachment to her family. Her human, Millie, had noticed Jasmine eating a bit less than usual, yet nothing was alarming. Then, suddenly Jasmine disappeared. A lifelong indoor cat, she abruptly thrust herself out of doors and stayed gone for weeks. Although Jasmine's distraught family launched a search, it was to no avail--until last Saturday. Just as suddenly as she disappeared, she reappeared in the night. Her return was celebrated with guarded optimism. It was thrilling to see her again, but time, it seemed, was limited. Even with her former sturdy and zaftig physical self reduced to bony frailty, Jasmine expressed her characteristic inner mightiness through loving purrs and labored mewing. Those last precious moments lying down on the carpet with Jasmine, stroking her, talking with her, will be forever cherished by her loved ones. It seems she knew she was sick so she left to go it alone. Then, she knew she was dying so she returned to say good-bye. In the end, medical intervention could not remedy a failed liver. At the age of 14, Jasmine passed away in the early hours of Sunday, October 19th, 2008. Jasmine is missed by her human family and her lifelong kitty companion, Samantha. Jasmine: Always loved; forever remembered.

Harlo KittySue Kelly made a $264.00 donation (toward a section of sanctuary fencing) in memory of Harlo Kitty. Buster KittenIn Loving Memory of Buster Kitten. I lost a kitty the other day. He got hit by a car. My Buster Kitten (instead of Buster Keaton). He lived up to his name too. He was the mob guy of the neighborhood and terrorized everyone. He protected his property for sure. I've never seen him out by the road before. It was odd. He has been with us for about 4 or 5 yrs. now. We adopted him from the petco in Folsom, from the A.C.T. group (Abandoned Cat Team). We miss him dearly as does my Felix. They were best buds and ruled the neighborhood together. --Amy

AlIn loving memory of Aloysius Nicodemus--but you can call him Al!. Al came to us as a rescued feral kitten, small enough to fit in one hand but with a will big enough to survive a broken leg after being hit by a car. He had a mission; to spend the next five years sharing his truly unique gifts with the world. He ultimately grew to be large and very much in charge. Everyone who saw him wanted to snuggle up with him, and they always walked off with a smile. All would comment on how Al conveyed a sense of peace and happiness to them. He fulfilled his mission. His death on April 24, 2007 came too soon. Paws Up, sweet Smilin' Al. We'll see you at the Bridge someday. Save us a spot on the bed!

Beautiful KittyThis is a portrait of BK (Beautiful Kitty) that we had done when he was about 5 years old. He was so great. He owned us. I taught him to walk on a leash and then without and he would do whatever I told him. It is just fortunate that where we live I could walk him next door to the cemetery and he could not get hurt. He would not run from me. He sat outside with us in the evening and when our lamppost went on, we would tell him it was time to go in. He was an inside kitty but I could take him for walks, he hopped in the car and went with us wherever we went. He was never left alone in the car. If we stopped at a store I would stay in car with A/C running and my husband would go in. He went to California twice with us, in his sherpa bag sitting on my lap. I unzipped the bag and just put my hand inside and he never made a peep. I guess you can tell, we loved him.
