Fat Kitty City Humane Society is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to ending needless suffering, through spaying, neutering, socialization & adoption, and other community-based programs. We currently operate a rare on-of-a-kind no-kill cat sanctuary on a 20-acre tree-studded natural environment where cats can live safely and roam free in Northern California.
History & Future
In 1998, Cindy and Ed Minghelli founded The Agee Memorial Wildlife Fund (AMWF) in Nevada, an animal welfare organization dedicated to rehabilitating and caring for the population of local wildlife and homeless pets. This effort included spaying and neutering of stray dogs, rehabilitation of reptiles, and adoption of efforts of cats. Their efforts have helped hundreds of animal lives during their operating time in Nevada.
In 2002, Ed and Cindy moved to El Dorado Hills and took time to rehabilitate squirrels through a separate local wildlife rescue. Cindy rehabilitated over 50 squirrels over the span of 4 years.
In 2006, Cindy and Ed came across a large feral colony of over 50 cats that needed help. In response to this need for help, Fat Kitty City was born. Ed and Cindy wanted to give a home to as many homeless pets as they could. The Agee Memorial Wildlife Fund opened the Fat Kitty Citycat sanctuary from little more than a barn, some sheds, and repurposed chicken coops in a small, fenced area. In 2019, the Fat Kitty City Humane Society was established to grow and strengthen that mission.
Today the sanctuary spans over 1.5 acres of fenced, forested land, supported by its own network of fosters, volunteers, veterinary partners, and community programs. Featuring an on-site veterinary clinic, the Fat Kitty City sanctuary is home to over 200 cats.
Fat Kitty City Humane Society (FKCHS) and The Agee Memorial Wildlife Fund, Inc. (AMWF) share a common purpose: to protect and improve the lives of animals in need. More specifically, however, the two organizations work side by side to support the Fat Kitty City sanctuary, its residents and all supporting mission operations including cat care of sanctuary residents, adoption, fostering and rescue of community cats. The two organizations work side by side to fulfill that mission with heart, transparency, and integrity. If you would like more information on how these two organizations work together to support our mission, please feel free to send your inquiry to [email protected] and we will respond to you as quickly as we are able to!
